Hello
I am a Senior Research Scientist at Runway working remotely from Norway on new content creation tools powered by machine learning. I’ve contributed to generative models, such as Gen-3 Alpha and Gen-1 (a video-to-video model), among many other things.
Before Runway, I worked as a Research Scientist in the Applied Deep Learning Research (ADLR) team at NVIDIA focusing on deep learning for graphics. There I was mainly working improvements to DLSS, but also a few other research projects in neural and differentiable rendering. I was also an intern for a year in the real-time rendering research group as part of NVIDIA Research before joining the ADLR team. On top of that, I had a short summer internship at Adobe Research working on GPU path tracing.
In general, I’m passionate about leveraging machine learning for content creation and graphics — applying technical methods to improve workflows and tools for artists is the most fulfilling work for me. Before getting into computer science, I was crazy about 3D, visual effects and animation. I spent my free time learning everything I possibly could about the field. I especially loved working with a VFX tool called Houdini. All this to say that I am aware of what the most frustrating parts of the pipeline are and have a desire to reduce annoyances wherever possible.
Outside of my research interests, I also enjoy photography, especially film photography, and the outdoors. In terms of education, I have a Master’s degree in Computer Science from ETH Zurich and a Bachelor’s degree from Aalto University in Finland. My Master’s thesis was supervised by Marios Papas, Jan Novák and Fabrice Rousselle, and my Bachelor’s thesis supervisor was Jaakko Lehtinen.
