While I was at Adobe for a summer research internship, I worked on a physically-based GPU path tracer. The main goal of the project was to see how much performance we could gain from using graphics cards for rendering instead of CPUs. Adobe Research has their own CPU renderer that is now part of Adobe Dimension and we would compare the performance against that. This internship coincided nicely with NVIDIA’s new ray tracing hardware (RTX) so we got to develop using a pre-release card. The project was shown at SIGGRAPH 2018 at NVIDIA’s Limelight event, which was held right after the announcement of RTX, and other companies also showed off the projects they had worked on.

As I’m writing this, Adobe’s conference called Adobe MAX is going on. And the renderer is also being shown there as can be seen from this video and this blog post both from NVIDIA.
